During the training the officer said training for gender equality enhances knowledge and skills, while providing techniques and resources to improve the performance and quality of our actions to bring about positive changes for all and create an equitable and peaceful society. W/ro Mintiwab Belay, ORDA Gender Officer, gave the training emphasizing on “gender concepts, terminologies and gender analysis” for the last five consecutive days.
To better achieve its targets, employees who withdrew from different programs and projects of ORDA participated in “Gender Training” which was offered from 8-12 April 2014 at Woreta town. Gender analysis practical session in groups In the same token, many women beneficiaries are grateful to ORDA and they witnessed the organization, in its effort, is participating women in developmental activities. Since the country is at a crucial time to complete those millennium development goals and the GTP, ORDA is playing a pivotal role to achieve developmental agendas on natural, water resource, food security and agricultural development, business development and action research and gender, youth and HIV/AIDS. ORDA, one of the major strategic partners of development in the region, is a gender sensitive organization working on benefiting women in each programs and projects.
Though the role of women in and outside home takes a lion’s share, it is difficult to conclude they are benefited from the results gained equally and equitably in economical, social, political and cultural advancements. For many years, women were highly discouraged by the stereotypes developed through varied culture of our society. It is a wrong traditionally saying/quote that its explicit meaning is to mean women are poor in decision making but they are limited to domestic activities of cooking food, rearing children, fetching water etc. This is an Amharic proverb of Ethiopians’ which is equivalent to “Let women go to their kitchen, but men to the court.”
